October 11, 2012 is National Coming Out Day!

Please, if someone comes out to you today about their gender identity or sexual orientation, offer them support and celebration. Below are some websites that might offer a little information about the day, tips on “coming out”, and what you can do as an ally for someone who has just came out. (P.S. It is always nice to give a card to someone if they come out.) Also, we have included some dates for this month that are happening in the LGBTQQ community. October 16th- Reading Pride selling vouchers for Boscov’s “Friends Helping Friends”- 9:00 a.m.- 1:30 p.m. Lower Level, Children’s Department Register. A $5 voucher gets you 25% all items on this day at Boscov’s. All the proceeds benefit the Reading Pride Event in July!

October 16th- PFLAG’s annual meeting. 7:00 pm. The group will show “Out in Silence” which is about the announcement of filmmaker Joe Wilson's wedding to another man ignites a firestorm of controversy in his small hometown and a plea for help from the mother of a gay teen being tormented at school.

October 20th- LGBTQ History- Presented by Rev. Jen Glass of the MCC. Plus, Mayor Spencer will recite the proclamation declaring October LGBT History Month in the City of Reading. (Great opportunity to learn more about the LGBTQ community, meet some people, and honor the city for this dedication!)
